The Mirror
- Reflection
- Self-knowledge
- Non-judgment
Beauty is life when life unveils her holy face. But you are life and you are the veil. Beauty is eternity gazing at itself in a mirror. But you are eternity and you are the mirror.
The Mirror is the single most foundational principle of reality. It is the inescapable truth that all external experience is a reflection of internal consciousness. Here, in the 9th gate of the Underworld, the paradox of Indra’s Net is immutable law: you are not a fragment of the whole, but the entire cosmos reflected in a singular point of view. Every enemy, lover, tragedy and blessing you perceive is a fractal echo of the vibration of your own soul. The Mirror reveals that there is no distance between the observer and the observed; your entire experience of life is the Emptiness looking back at itself through the eyes of a single awareness.
Trying to smash the Mirror of reality to change the image you are seeing is futile. You cannot force your reflection to smile by screaming at it; you must alter your own expression first. When this archetype appears, it is an invitation to completely drop your judgment, as judgment is simply the heavy grime of the ego smearing the glass. Rather than asking why the world is doing this to you, courageously turn your gaze inward and ask, “what part of my internal Universe is this situation reflecting back to me?” To clear the distortion, allow yourself to become a blank slate—a luminous, transparent tabula rasa. If the reflection you see is unpleasant, stop blaming the glass and instead lovingly wash the lens of your own perception.
