Addiction
- Wounding
- Escapism
- Letting Go
…it’s always about pain… be with it. Attempting to escape from pain creates more pain, which is the reality of addiction.
Addiction is the great impostor of the Underworld. It is a spiritual short-circuit: the pursuit of a cheap, synthetic high to avoid the rawness of the real thing. You are wired for ecstatic divine union—for a somatic, sexual, explosive connection to Source—but maintaining that connection also requires you to feel everything, including pain. Addiction is the attempt to escape from suffering, which ironically guarantees you will suffer indefinitely. It is a feedback loop of diminishing returns, where you trade your infinite creative power for a momentary numbness. It is the illusion of sustenance that leaves you starving; it is a severing of the branch of self from the Tree of Life.
To break this loop, stop settling for temporary relief and instead open yourself to true, lasting satisfaction. The beautiful antidote to this archetype is never rigid discipline; rather, it is a practice of radical, tender intimacy with your own body. Softly trace your cravings back to their root, where you will discover that the frantic need to consume is actually your own life force, twisted and crying out for your attention. When this archetype appears, lay down your distractions and lovingly sit with the discomfort you have been running from. Allow yourself to stop numbing the sacred wound so you can finally listen to its wisdom. Reclaim your erotic, creative autonomy by gracefully diving straight through the center of your pain.
