Muladhara (The Root)

Roots are not in a landscape or a country, or a people, they are inside you.

— Isabel Allende

Muladhara is the primal anchor of your spiritual anatomy. The “root of existence” connecting you to the gravity of the Earth. It is the foundation that binds your spirit into the mud. Located at the perineum, it governs your felt sense of safety and your instinctual right to take up space, acting as the primal interface between your nervous system and the living biosphere. This archetype is the repository of your earliest survival programming and the bedrock of your being. Its medicine is about inhabiting the physical so utterly that no external force—be it physical, emotional or mental—can ever unseat you. This is the animal logic of safety, the deep, pulsing frequency that inextricably weaves you into the body of the Earth.

Embrace your biology and start gardening it. When this archetype appears, take an audit of your foundational roots. Human beings all spend early childhood in a highly receptive state, unconsciously absorbing the conditioning of the environment. Now you have the power to re-pot yourself into new soil. Rather than judging yourself for who you have been, notice where you may have outsourced your safety to other people’s beliefs and expectations. You do not need to build your life on a swamp of external anxiety. Stabilize your nervous system, reclaim your feral right to be who you are, and let the Earth nourish you so that your branches can grow strong.
